I have now tried veganuary for almost a month. I to date have now lost about a stone with diet change and some fitness. I have found I have energy, don’t feel so bloated and sluggish and have enjoyed the freshness of the food I have eaten. I’m not going to lie and say that it’s been easy and that I have completely succeeded there have been some of my menu that has been a bit more vegetarian than vegan as some products I enjoy contain milk for example and I haven’t been able to find some alternatives yet. But I have given it my all creating my own mayo, the plant based meat substitutes, tried the cheese, the milk alternatives which I have to say I enjoy oat milk has a nice sweetness to it. The cheese on the other hand will have to grow on me. I never thought I would have this affect however, I had a veggie meal at a pub which I used to eat and love and have realised how much it’s affected my taste. I could taste the grease and it was so heavy in terms of eating I struggled to get through it as it was now a lot more starchy and processed than I am now used to for a meal. I realised I am now so used to freshly cooked meals I actually didn’t enjoy the processed fried aspect as I once did. I am now thinking that the choice is now to be a lifestyle which I will work into my routine. I have started for health benefits and think that in a short space I have started to see some already and have enjoyed a varied new menu so shall see wether I can continue to explore this new avenue and look forward to see where it takes me.
